Busted! Don’t Believe These Window Treatment Myths!
- DoneRight Window Coverings
When it comes to decorating your home, there’s no shortage of window treatment options. From blinds to shutters to curtains, you have a wealth of choices at your fingertips. However, with all the information out there, it can be easy to get caught up in myths and misconceptions about window treatments. To help you steer clear of these misconceptions, DoneRight Window Coverings has debunked some of the most widely believed myths about window treatments.
Myth 1: Sun shade fabrics give you privacy
While it may look good, this roller shade fabric has openness factors to keep in mind, for example, 1%, 3%, 5%, etc. openness. You would use these fabrics when you want to block the sun’s rays and the harmful UV rays but have a view that you still want to see when the roller shade is down to block the sun rays and have UV protection for your floors and furniture. The problem is at night when your lights are on; you don’t really get to have privacy. While you get to have a lovely outside view during the day, people can also see inside your room at night when the lights are on. The solution is to combine a blackout fabric roller shade with the sun shade fabric roller shade. This way, you have two separate roller shades that operate independently from each other. These roller shades can be motorized so that you can operate them with a handheld remote or from your smartphone or tablet.
Myth 2: All window treatments are the same
There are various window treatments like shutters, roller shades, cellular shades, faux wood, wood blinds, etc. The idea that any and all window treatments will fit any window is not right. There are limitations to the kind of window treatment your particular windows may need. For example, a lot of roller shade fabrics only have specific widths, and your window might exceed the width of the fabric that you have chosen. The same goes for wood, faux wood blinds, and cellular shades. Romans alternating shades, also known as dual shades/shutters, are more versatile when you have bigger windows to cover. We would speak with our clients and get their feedback on what their thoughts are on the window treatment that they want. This would begin the discussion and lead to questions and answers clarifying what would work for their window treatment.
Myth 3: Motorized shades are not worth the investment
Today, a lot of people looking to have window treatments are not aware of the fact that in our industry, we can not use cords or chains on window treatments such as roller shades, cellular shades, alternating shades, dual shades, zebra shades, roman shades, wood and faux wood blinds for child safety. The law came into effect in May 2022. During our in-depth discussion about what our client wants for a window treatment, part of that discussion would be that by law, they wouldn’t be able to have chains or cords to lift their shades/blinds for the above products. We will then proceed to tell them what alternatives are available such as motorization with a handheld remote.
